One day a young boy about 9 years old came into our building. He just went into Ms. Jean’s class sat down and began working on his homework. I went and introduced myself and asked his name. His name was Tyler and was in the 4th grade. He explained the kids in the neighborhood told him about Coalition and we would help him with his homework, so he had his packet and was ready to begin. Do you know how many backpacks we go through for kids that ‘HAVE NO HOMEWORK” (ha-ha!). He also explained he has dyslexia and needs someone to read aloud with him. My heart immediately went out to this child. With only very few weeks before our program ended I explained he still could come as” our guest” when he needed help with his homework. Needless to say, he has come every day since.
