No one wants to believe that it is happening here—children robbed of their childhood through danger, violence, addictions, hopelessness and having responsibility for themselves at an early age.

It is the tough reality in this Johnson City neighborhood…but on one street corner is a place of hope; a shelter from a dangerous storm. It is the Coalition for Kids.

Every afternoon, kids come by the vanload to The Rock, a community center under the direction of the Coalition for Kids, Inc. The Coalition is a non-profit organization with a mission to help children in need. Here they find a Safe Place, help with homework, reading and math assistance, music and art lessons, athletics, special preventive programs for violence and substance abuse, and a free snack and dinner. Through our Coalition staff and a network of volunteer counselors, we are eyewitnesses to something wonderful…lives changed, one child at a time.

Home can be a lonely place: “The other kids don't like me. That's why I used to stay inside a lot. I'm excited to come to the Rock because…I know I'm going to have a good day.”

                                                      Matthew—a Coalition child

Prior to the opening of The Rock, the Coalition children had no close by community center, no easy access to tutoring and mentoring opportunities and limited transportation to other facilities, especially for the younger children. The Coalition helps low-income, at-risk children master basic educational and social skills. It is our goal that through these transformed lives, the community will be changed as others see the difference love and discipline make in the lives of these children.

It is an honor to partner with you in our mission to reach the Least, the Last, and the Lost . We gladly welcome the opportunity to provide a tour of The Rock or to present our program at your request. Together we can make a difference.

Thank you in advance for your time and interest.
